Too much of the corny and not enough of them being natural. I know TG was scripted, but the best bits felt natural. The trip(s) through the special forces training center could have been cool if they showed things from a more straight up perspective.

Agreed. This was weak Top Gear. I’m frankly, at the moment, more worried about the future of this show than BBC New Top Gear. The first episode was “OK”, but only OK. This was not good. I almost didn’t finish watching. The video game restart was funny twice, but even then the delivery was wooden, and by the 10th time it was VERY old, and then it KEPT GOING. talk about comedic timing failure. There was also not nearly enough automotive content in it. I mean, when TG-USA did the military training thing at least they competed against each other with very different vehicles. I wanted to know more about the Vulcan... I wanted to see them try to stuff a deer in the back, on top of the fuel-cell... or maybe a sheep... and for god’s sake what was UNDER that replica Sauber Mercedes??? Does no one Care??!!

Yeah, I though it was weak, too.

(BTW, “LIVE. DRIVE. REPEAT.” would have been a good title for this episode if that wasn’t already the name of Alex Roy’s blog.)

I did appreciate the slam on Audi for understeer... but that was like 6-seconds out of an hour.

This episode felt a lot like late top gear. Which honestly wasn’t very good either in my opinion.

It felt way too forced, was just a boring “challenge”

I enjoyed most all of episode one. This one, not much.

I felt that they were trying too hard to be funny. It was definitely forced

I’ve commented similarly already: I think the Top Gear franchise is a personality cult that has worn thin. Clarkson is a sexist and a homophobe and I’m just really tired of him. And the TG remake, with Matt Whoever was a disappointment.

I have moved on to Roadkill . Genuine articles, all of those guys. Steve Dulcich is my favorite. If there is a personality cult, maybe it’s Mopar.

Perhaps what hooks me about Roadkill , and even though it may be painfully obvious, it strikes me just now, is how quintissentially American it is. And what do I care about a bunch of cars that I can’t afford even to look at?
